Do you realize what it costs to be buried?  We went today to prepay our burial.  After looking at the prices of funerals, I have decided to work harder at healthy living so I’ll have time to save enough money for a burial.  I’ll need to add another 30 or 40 years to my life!

Since I don’t smoke or drink, my worse problem is overeating and gaining weight.  Bathroom scales are not that expensive and they have really been improved over the last few years.  The electronic digital scales have the hold feature that lets you see your weight after you step off the scale.  That is very helpful when your eyesight is failing.  Also, by cutting back on food, I should be able to save a little on the grocery bill, which can be saved toward my burial.  If I save a little each week, I should be able to pay for the burial in about 30 years.  I should have started saving a long time ago!

Save Time In The Kitchen

I bought a new Vita-Mix.  If you’re not familiar with it, it’s like a blender only much stronger.  It is like a miracle worker.  You can make soup in it ready to eat.  A recipe book came with it and I noticed that it lists mL amounts along with cups, etc.  Like most other people, I would assume, I need to save time in the kitchen, so I started doing a little research.

I found that Escali makes a scale that can measure in milliliters as well as pounds, ounces, grams, etc.  It has the Tare feature that will allow you to reset the scale to zero after each ingredient is added.  I believe I can set the container from my Vita-Mix on the scale, add each ingredient, and only have one dish to wash from my recipe.  I can hardly wait to get my liquid measuring scale from www.holladaypartners.com

My Extra Pounds Love Me

About two years ago, I decided I wanted a house dog.  I went to see some new Chihuahua puppies to choose the one I wanted.  The runt of the litter seemed to relax when I held him, went to sleep in my lap, and immediately bonded with me.  I tried to convince myself that I didn’t really want a dog to care for (especially since my husband was talking against the idea), but the vision of that little runt of the litter just wouldn’t let me be.  I decided to babysit the puppy for a week to see how we would adapt.  He would cry out in the night, I would run to his bed, love him and play with him, and get him back to sleep.  This happened about every two hours the first night, but gradually decreased until by the end of the week, he was sleeping through the night.  I promised him that if he would just let me sleep, I would love and care for him.  After that week, I paid for him, bought all the necessities, and settled in to be a dog owner.  Since that time, he has bonded with my cat and my husband, so all is fine now.

I have decided that my extra pounds on my body have bonded with me about like that little Chihuahua.  I’ve had them so long, lost them for a short time, added them again, etc. until I think they love me just like my little dog.  They know I’ll care for them.  I know this sound ridiculous, so once again, I’ll step on my bathroom scales and resolve to lose weight.  However, if I fail, I know my pounds love me and want to stay with me.

1032-447727.jpgOne of my New Year’s resolutions is to clean out and straighten every closet, pantry and drawer in my house.  Now this shouldn’t be all that hard since our house burned with everything in it 7 years ago and we’ve only been living in this house 3 1/2 years.  How much stuff can you accumulate in only 7 years and how cluttered can closets and drawers get in just 3 1/2 years.  Also, I make this resolution every year and work on some of them, I just never seem to get all of them before the urge leaves me.  I’m dreading my clothes closet this year because almost all the clothes in there no longer fit.  Keep in mind that all of these clothes have either been purchased or were given to me in the last 7 years.  Yes, I weigh quite a few pounds more than I did just 7 years ago, and I have lost this same weight at least twice during that time.

I would like to take care of my weight problem without an organized diet program.  I hate paying money to be weighed each week while attending some meeting where people try to encourage me to eat right.  I know what I need to do, it’s just a matter of willpower.  A set of scales in the bathroom and some nutritional scales in the kitchen should get me started in the right direction.  Besides the need to fit into my clothing, all of this excess weight makes my knees hurt, my feet hurt, and causes shortness of breath when I’m trying to sing.  I know the weight is causing all of this, because every time I lose the weight, everything gets a lot better.  Maybe cleaning out the closets and drawers will at least burn a few calories!

Caterers Need Scales

Many people planning wedding receptions, showers, birthday parties or other celebrations choose to use a catering service.  The caterers prepare the food, set it up at the preferred location, often help with the serving, then clean up the leftovers and take it all away.  This allows the host and/or hostess to be free to greet and mingle with the guests.

If you are involved in a catering company, a set of restaurant scales can save you time and make your life easier.  The Tare feature will subtract the weight of the container, then reset to zero after each ingredient is added.  Measuring cups and spoons are not sufficient when quantities are large.  Check out the selection of scales at  www.holladaypartners.com  for the best prices ever.

Normal BMI is 18.5 - 24.9

Body Mass Index (BMI) is used as a screening tool to identify possible weight problems for adults.  It is not a diagnostic tool.  A healthcare provider would need to perform further assessments which might include skinfold thickness measurements, evaluations of diet, physical activity, family history, etc.  Since overweight and obese individuals are at increased risk for many diseases and health conditions, it is important to get the proper screenings to detect problems early.  The formula for BMI is:    weight (lb) / [height (in.)]2 x 703

Unless you’re a math whiz, it’s much easier to get some body mass index scales to figure it for you.  If your BMI is below 18.5, you’re considered underweight; 18.5 - 24.9 normal; 25.0 - 29.9 overweight; and 30.0 and above is obese.    www.holladaypartners.com  has body mass index scales at the lowest price ever.

We hear a lot today about multitasking.  As a working mom, we find ourselves trying to keep the house in order, keep the laundry done, keep the family fed, attend school functions, keep the family in church, etc. along with the responsibilities of our job.  A person with a “one-track mind” is in serious trouble in today’s world.

Sometimes we can find a gadget or appliance, etc. that can also multitask.  Multifunctional scales can weigh in ounces, pounds, grams, troy ounces, pennyweights, etc., and can help in kitchens, labs, hobbies or any number of activities.  They are available in different sizes, colors and styles at www.holladaypartners.com

There are so many trucks on the road now.  We live close to I-40 which runs East to West across the United State, and the increase over the last few years in the number of trucks traveling that road is astounding.  So many of our products are shipped by truck.  Companies like FedEx, DSL, UPS, and the United State Postal Service make it easy for all of us to ship items to other parts of the Country.

If you’re trying to sell on Ebay or operating a small business that ships products out, it will pay you to buy a postage or shipping scale.  You can save yourself some trouble and time by weighing your packages before you take them to the shipping pick-up.  When you know approximately what it will cost to ship the item, you can include at least part of this cost in the price of your product.  www.holladaypartners.com offers an electronic digital shipping scale that will simplify your life at the lowest price ever.

Take Your Diet On The Road

Everything is smaller today.  Cell phones, laptops, ipods–you can carry almost any electronic gadget in your hand.  Speakers that used to take up a lot of space are now smaller, yet clearer.  Computers that once took up a whole room at a university were not as capable as one now that can sit on your lap.  You can watch movies on a handheld ipod.  Convenience is the key.

Scales are smaller, too.  A handheld scale that will fit in your pocket can be taken into restaurants or used at home.  It can measure your food portions before they are placed on your plate.  In other words, you can take your diet on the road with you.  Wherever you are, you can be assured that you will be able to stay on your diet and get rid of those excess pounds.

There’s nothing like old friends.  I don’t mean they’re old, but we’ve been friends for a long time.  Today a high school classmate and his wife came by to see us.  We graduated over 50 years ago, so we have been friends a long, long time.  Changes in technology don’t make an old friend obsolete–they just makes it easier to stay in touch.

Technological changes are difficult for people my age.  Things improve so fast, but it’s hard to get rid of the old comfortable things and learn how to use the newer ones.  However, it’s often well-worth the effort.  For example, the difference between the old dial scales we used to use in the kitchen and the newer cooking scale that will measure liquid ingredients as well as dry ingredients is just incredible.  www.holladaypartners.com has a wide variety of scales in many colors, sizes and styles to meet every need and match any decor at the lowest prices ever.
